Applying for Scholarships

Heading off to college? Take advantage of scholarship opportunities.

Before applying for financing, take advantage of the free sources of funds that may be available to you, such as scholarships.


Members First Credit Union Scholarship Program

Your credit union awards several scholarships each year in an ongoing effort to aid students in their quest for further education, while honoring those who have served our community and the credit union in ways that will forever be appreciated and remembered.

Applications are available for download below and must be postmarked or delivered to any branch no later than April 1, 2024. Winners will be notified by July 1, 2024.

Qualifications

Among other qualifiers that are unique for each scholarship, every applicant:

  1. Must be a Member of Members First Credit Union (in New Hampshire) for at least one year, or have a parent/guardian who has been a Member of the credit union for at least one year, by the application deadline. Note: Although there are other Members First Credit Unions across the country, qualified applicants must be members of this credit union, located in New Hampshire, specifically.
  2. Must be a full-time student currently enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university undergraduate program.
  3. Must meet individual qualifications for each scholarship applied for.
  4. Must complete application fully.
  5. Must submit current transcript.

A lifetime maximum of two (2) scholarships may be awarded per applicant.


Members First Credit Union Memorial Scholarship

Members First Credit Union awards three memorial scholarships representing past members of our Board of Directors, all of whom have served both their communities and Members First in ways that will always be remembered and appreciated.

John S. Walsh Memorial Scholarship

Manchester firefighter John S. Walsh founded Members First Credit Union, formerly known as the Manchester Municipal Employees Credit Union, in 1949. In the beginning, John operated the credit union out of his briefcase from the Somerville Street fire station. This scholarship was created to honor Mr. Walsh and his passion for Members First and the entire credit union industry.

Wilbur L. Jenkins Memorial Scholarship

Wilbur L. Jenkins served as a Director on the Supervisory Committee of Members First Credit Union for 34 years. Mr. Jenkins was also the first Personnel Director for the City of Manchester. This scholarship was created to honor Mr. Jenkins' unwavering loyalty and dedication to Members First Credit Union.

Michael L. Briggs Memorial Scholarship

Officer Michael L. Briggs was a dedicated policeman and five-year veteran of the Manchester Police Department. Wounded in the line of duty, he passed away in October 2006 as a result of those injuries. This scholarship was created to honor Officer Briggs and his heroic dedication to the City of Manchester.
