For over 170 years, Waypoint NH has been a cornerstone of support for individuals and families throughout New Hampshire. As one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in the state, Waypoint has been empowering people of all ages since its founding in 1850. Looking ahead to its 175th anniversary in 2025, Waypoint continues to expand its reach through a diverse array of human services and advocacy programs, all of which are designed to meet the evolving needs of the community.

A Lifelong Commitment to Empowerment
Waypoint’s mission is clear: to empower individuals through every stage of life by offering critical services and resources. Whether it’s helping families with young children or supporting seniors and people with disabilities, Waypoint’s holistic approach ensures that no one is left behind. The organization’s services are categorized into four core areas of care:
1. Early Childhood and Family Support
Waypoint’s early childhood programs focus on strengthening families and ensuring the healthy development of children. This includes home visiting services and therapy for infants and toddlers with or at risk of developmental delays, as well as family education programs designed to prevent abuse and neglect. Family Resource Centers located across New Hampshire serve as hubs of support for these services, giving parents the tools they need to provide a solid foundation for their children’s success.
2. Family Preservation and Strengthening
For families involved with child welfare or juvenile justice systems, Waypoint offers intensive home-based programs to restore positive family functioning. The goal is to provide families with the skills and resources they need to stabilize, thrive, and become self-sufficient. These services are offered both to families seeking voluntary support and those involved with state systems, ensuring that every family has the opportunity to build a stronger, healthier future.
3. Homeless Youth and Young Adults
One of the most impactful aspects of Waypoint’s work is its outreach to homeless youth and young adults aged 12 to 25. Waypoint operates a continuum of care that ranges from street-based outreach to drop-in centers, crisis intervention, housing support, and long-term case management. With a focus on helping young people achieve stability and independence, Waypoint’s services provide crucial lifelines, including operating New Hampshire’s only low-barrier emergency shelter specifically for young adults aged 18-24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
4. Health, Well-being, and Independence
Waypoint’s support extends to seniors and adults with disabilities through a variety of in-home care services. Personal care providers, nurses, and LNAs assist with daily living needs such as cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, and mobility, allowing seniors and adults with disabilities to maintain their independence. Additionally, Waypoint offers support for families with children managing chronic health conditions, ensuring that they can access the resources they need to provide the best care possible for their loved ones.
Looking Forward
As Waypoint prepares for its 175th anniversary, the organization remains as committed as ever to its mission of empowering people of all ages. From early childhood programs to services for seniors, Waypoint’s comprehensive approach makes it a vital resource for individuals and families throughout New Hampshire.
