The Manchester Police Athletic League (MPAL) has been making a positive impact on the community since its founding in 1992. As an organization that bridges the gap between law enforcement and the youth of Greater Manchester, MPAL offers a safe and supportive environment for kids to grow, develop, and thrive. The heart of this organization is its home base, the Officer Michael Briggs Community Center, located at 409 Beech Street.
This 16,000+ square foot building has been central to MPAL’s operations since 2000 when it was purchased to serve as the headquarters. After a multi-year renovation project, the community center officially opened its doors in 2004, providing Manchester youth with access to a range of athletic, educational, and enrichment programs. Named after Officer Michael Briggs, who was killed in the line of duty, the community center stands as a tribute to his commitment to helping local kids find a positive path.

In 2016, MPAL received a major boost when Building on Hope, a community organization that renovates spaces for nonprofits, selected the Michael Briggs Community Center for its next project. The renovations were transformative, improving the facilities to better meet the needs of MPAL’s participants. The upgraded basement now includes a fully equipped weight room and boxing gym, while the main level features a large open mat area, a commercial kitchen, a game room, and a parents' room. These renovations have enhanced MPAL’s ability to provide a welcoming, inclusive space for all.
