5 Budget-Friendly, Last-Minute Halloween Costumes

5 Budget-Friendly, Last-Minute Halloween Costumes You Can Create at Home

Halloween has a way of sneaking up on us, but you don’t have to spend big to have a great costume!

With a little creativity (and maybe a few items you already have around the house), you can pull together something festive and fun for kids or adults. Here are five easy, budget-friendly ideas to try this year.

1. The Classic Ghost (With a Twist)

A white sheet never goes out of style! Cut out eye holes, grab a pair of sunglasses, and call yourself a “cool ghost.”

Want to step it up a notch? Add accessories — like a hat and beach towel — and become a “ghost on vacation.” Simple, funny, and always a crowd-pleaser.

2. Error 404: Costume Not Found

All you need is a plain white T-shirt and a marker (or a printed label). Write “Error 404: Costume Not Found” across the front, and you’ve got a clever, tech-inspired look that takes five minutes and zero effort. Bonus points if you carry your phone around like you’re waiting for a software update.

Farmer Costume3. Farmer or Gardener

Overalls, a flannel shirt, and a straw hat—instant farmer! Add a toy shovel, a stuffed farm animal, or even a basket of fake veggies to complete the look. It’s a wholesome, family-friendly costume that works just as well for classroom parties as it does for community trunk-or-treats.

4. Bank Robber (The Friendly Kind!)

Black shirt, black pants, and a striped scarf or beanie—plus a paper bag with a big dollar sign drawn on it. Easy, classic, and funny for both kids and adults. Family-friendly and easy to assemble in minutes. Bonus: if you’re heading out as a group, turn it into a whole “robber crew.” (But maybe don't stop by your local branch in costume).

5. Sports Fan Superfan

Rep your favorite team gear—jersey, hat, foam finger, or face paint—and go all-in as your team’s number one fan. This one works especially well for families who can coordinate in team colors. You’ll look ready to cheer on your favorite players… or just win best costume at your Halloween party.

Keeping It Fun (and Affordable)

Halloween doesn’t have to mean expensive store-bought costumes. The best looks often come from creativity, not cost. And if you’re saving a few dollars this year, that’s a treat worth celebrating too.
