Advocacy in Action: The Heart of Waypoint’s Mission

At Waypoint, empowerment doesn’t stop at service delivery. As a nonprofit grounded in nearly two centuries of care, Waypoint is also a leading voice for change—amplifying community needs and shaping the systems that serve them.

Through a culture built on compassion, integrity, and innovation, Waypoint continues to break new ground in both direct support and public policy advocacy—because when systems improve, lives do too.

Guided by Values, Driven by Purpose

Every aspect of Waypoint’s work is rooted in a powerful set of organizational values:

  • Community of Staff – Employees collaborate as a unified, compassionate team to deliver high-quality support across New Hampshire.
  • Culture of Care – Staff are given space to learn, grow, and adapt, creating a responsive and accountable work environment.
  • Integrity in Action – Waypoint responds to emerging needs with nimble, innovative programs that meet people where they are.
  • Lifting Every Voice – Through advocacy and public policy efforts, Waypoint gives voice to those often unheard—ensuring all Granite Staters are represented.
  • Making an Impact – Every program is continuously evaluated, using data and reporting to improve services and outcomes.

These values aren’t just ideals—they’re the framework for every service, every partnership, and every act of support.

Advocacy That Makes a Difference

Waypoint doesn’t just respond to crises—they work to prevent them from happening in the first place. Their advocacy has led to real, lasting change, including the creation of New Hampshire’s Office of the Child Advocate in 2017, which strengthened protections for vulnerable children statewide.

Today, Waypoint continues to fight for policies that:

  • Expand access to affordable housing and youth shelter
  • Improve child welfare systems and family support services
  • Promote health equity and home-based care
  • Ensure fair funding and recognition for frontline human service workers

By standing alongside lawmakers, community members, and partner organizations, Waypoint makes sure that those closest to the challenges are also closest to the solutions.

Innovation Born from Need

Waypoint’s willingness to evolve is one of its greatest strengths. From launching New Hampshire’s first outpatient adolescent substance use program to expanding services during the rise in youth homelessness, they consistently show what it means to lead with purpose.

In 2021, they partnered with the State of New Hampshire to launch Community-Based Voluntary Services, aimed at helping families stabilize before reaching a crisis point—a powerful example of prevention-focused programming.

Stronger Communities Start Here

Waypoint’s culture and advocacy work remind us that support should be proactive, not reactive—and that change is most powerful when it’s community-led.

Their 175-year legacy proves that meaningful progress happens when organizations combine on-the-ground expertise with a bold, strategic voice for justice.

Stay tuned for our final post, where we’ll show you how to get involved in Waypoint’s mission and help build a stronger New Hampshire.
